Parents body PAWJ seeks audit of Delhi private schools , stronger fee regulation
New Delhi, Jul 20 (INB) A newly launched parents' body The Parents Association for Welfare and Justice has called for an independent financial audit of private unaided schools in Delhi and immediate operationalisation of School Level Fee Regulation Committees (SLFRCs), representative of the organisation said.
While raising concerns over school fee regulation and child rights, The Parents Association for Welfare and Justice (PAWJ) has demanded greater transparency in the school governance.
PAWJ was inaugurated at the Press Club of India, with participation from parents, educationists, child rights activists, advocates and civil society representatives. The association said it aims to work towards children's welfare, transparency, accountability and participative governance in school education.
Addressing a press conference, PAWJ president Divya Mattey said the association would work to ensure that every child receives education with dignity, safety, equality and fairness, while promoting greater participation of parents in the education system.
The association appealed to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court to consider examining issues arising from a Delhi High Court judgment delivered on May 22, 2026, relating to school fee enhancement by schools allotted land by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
It said the matter raises important legal questions regarding prior approval for fee hikes. PAWJ also demanded an independent financial audit of all private unaided recognised schools in Delhi that sought fee enhancement from the 2020-21 academic session onwards. It said the audits should examine compliance with statutory provisions and Directorate of Education norms before any future fee determination.
The association urged the Delhi government to operationalise School Level Fee Regulation Committees under the Delhi School Education Act, 2025, establish democratically elected Parent-Teacher Associations in schools, and strictly implement provisions protecting students from harassment arising out of fee-related disputes.
PAWJ further informed the media that legal notices had been served by the DPS Society to its office-bearers before the inauguration, alleging unauthorised use of the society's intellectual property and calling for cancellation of the launch.
The association said it disagrees with the allegations and would respond through appropriate legal channels.
The body said it would continue to pursue its objectives through constitutional and democratic means while advocating for transparency, accountability and the welfare of children.
